BROOKLYN PART 2
"At a flea market, I always head for the junk jewelry table first." -- Ethel Merman
Nicholas is slightly obsessed with silvery rings. I know, don't ask. He's been looking for a good one for some time now, but I'm always on the lookout for a perfect one. We found one near the Brooklyn Flea Market in DUMBO. After scanning the flea market tables and coming up short, we found a cool boutique with apparel, house goods and antique jewelry. There it was, a distressed silver wax stamp ring with a royal crest prominently featuring the letter "N" -- it was perfect. We bought that and a few other goodies...some rugs and decorations for the home. This was only one highlight of our Sunday in Brooklyn, but it was such a good one, I had to lead with it.
Morning took us to the perfect brunch at Cafe Mogodor and a quick stop at Bakeri. We then traveled to Prospect Park for a farewell picnic hosted by Nicholas' newly married friends. It was a great way to see everyone one last time and say goodbyes. It also was a perfect day for a stroll in the park. After the flea market, we picked up some Bee's Knees honey at a local Whole Foods before a wonderful dinner at Zenkichi. The restaurant featured small, private booths with bamboo drapes that preserved privacy and intimacy. The menu was an Autumn-themed Omakase menu: eight courses of sheer delight with sashimi, tofu dishes, small surprises and a sake pairing with each course. While it was delicious, it wasn't very filling, so we ended our night with late-night pizza. From start to finish, the day was fantastic! It was sad to leave Brooklyn, but we did miss the kids and home. Happy to leave on a high note, this day provided stops that won't be forgotten. Thank you, Brooklyn. You were perfect!
