MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS, HOUSTON

We are huge fans of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. Both Sebastian and Gigi visited the museum often as newborns, and we haven’t stopped going since. Of course, we have not visited as often as we would like during the pandemic, so the opportunities we do take to visit are special to us. Our most recent trip, just before the kids’ Spring Break, brought the added surprise of a brand new building. The Nancy and Rich Kinder Building, designed by New York-based Steven Holl Architects, brings a gorgeous new home for the MFA’s contemporary and modern art collections, as well as photography, sculpture and a whole section devoted to Latin American and Latinx art. Too bad we ventured down the rainbow hall, reminiscent of a Dan Flavin sculpture, that connects the MFA buildings when Gigi began to have her fill of the outing. When Gigi is ready to go, she let’s everyone within a mile know. We still soaked up as much art as we could and were happy to return to one of our favorite family activities after all this time. We are going back, especially to explore more of the new campus. Bottom line, when you look back at your kids and asked them if they enjoyed their time at the museum, and they respond positively and enthusiastically, it feels good. When they ask three days later when we will go back, it feels great!
