BROOKLYN PART 1 + A VIDEO
Our Brooklyn Photos are finally up + a video.
We traveled to Brooklyn to celebrate life partnerships – and we had a ton of fun doing it! I could go on and on about all the lovely sights and places we visited. The Williamsburg Hotel: fabulous! The Brooklyn Bridge: breathtaking (and I got to meet Jaci-Marie Smith!!) Café Mogador: the best brunch we’ve had in years! Zenkichi: a surprisingly wonderful and intimate dinner! Prospect Park: lovely (also, Congrats John and Kristen!) We had pizza twice, CBD coffee and way too much to drink! But this isn’t a travel review. This trip was all about celebrating our partnership and helping others celebrate theirs.
You see, it’s been a while since we’ve been out…without children…and able to enjoy things considered “adult time.” Brooklyn was the first trip Nicholas and I took without children, either in or ex utero. We made a pact not to argue or bicker, but rather to just enjoy ourselves. And we did, tremendously! We also got to see some of Nicholas’ dearest friends and celebrate their love and partnerships. It was a love-fest all around, and we were more than happy to be swept up. We spend all this time thinking about what traits and characteristics make for the perfect partner: communication, looks, humor, career, interests, etc. Often overlooked are the many ways you can just help each other navigate through times of stress or trouble. Can you manage through conflict? Can you support each other and make sure that support is felt and offered the right way? Do you “get” each other? Thankfully, these coping mechanisms weren’t needed in Brooklyn, but I felt the time we spent together and the time we shared just enjoying ourselves and each other’s company was amplified, made all the more sweet, because we are learning more and more how to be great partners and better parents. We’re not perfect, but we work hard at it. Just like we did with our Brooklyn Diet and making sure everything was well planned and managed for time. Brooklyn was a dessert, a well-deserved glass of Scotch…a real treat.
