FIESTA DETAILS
Putting together a party takes a lot of planning and hard work.
One of our favorite activities is coming up with family traditions. Sometimes they’re planned. Most times that pop up organically. When Sebastian celebrated his first Halloween, we came up with the idea to do family costume portraits. When the holidays approach, we do our best to decorate and get everyone in a festive mood. Birthdays have now fallen into our “tradition” category. Nicholas and I agreed that the kids will have a big, blow-out birthday party for their first, but subsequent birthdays would be small and family-based until they turn five…maybe 10. OK, maybe 18! Big birthday parties take a lot of planning, and hosting…and energy. We were absolutely spent after Gigi’s first birthday, but looking back at all the pictures, memories and hearing about how everyone had a wonderful time made all the planning and work worth it. Also, just like Bash’s first birthday, we were so excited and thrilled to do everything because it was all done out of love.
I couldn’t have done it without the help of my family and some very talented artisans. Our gorgeous flowers were provided by Elizabeth, The Petaler. She has worked every milestone of Gigi’s life. Elizabeth is not only very talented, she also is a wonderful person to work with. She knew exactly what I wanted and amazed me with what she had done. I always have a picture in my head of how things should look, but Elizabeth’s work far surpasses anything I could imagine. I know I’ll be working with her in the future, and I can’t wait to see what other wonderful arrangements our family traditions inspire.
What it comes down to is this: I love a good party. Since becoming a mom, all of my creative juices go into planning parties and activities for my kids. We knew immediately the party theme would be a “Fiesta” — papel picado, maracas, tacos, pan dulce, and a piñata. Because I have had a few people ask, I am sharing all the details. :)
