BAPTISMAL CELEBRATION PART 1
Our decision to baptize the children felt like a “beginning.” Indeed, that’s what the ceremony is: a celebration of life, both temporal and divine. It introduces them to the mystery of divine life through rebirth in water and the Holy Spirit. Mystery is correct. Nicholas and I are still unlocking and investigating the mystery of our faith. Likely Sebastian and Gigi will do the same as they grow and learn more of the church and its teachings. We do, however, want this to be a part of our lives, one that we all learn over time and experience to understand. No, we have not accepted everything. We are far from devout. But the Catholic Church is familiar to us, it holds history for us. So, January 13 represented a beginning in many ways, for them, for their godparents, for us and for all members of our family. Accordingly, we celebrate, and celebrate big! Our home welcomed friends, family and all who wished to witness and be a part of this important beginning. Neither Nicholas nor I know what will come next on this journey, but we do know that the start was filled with joy and color, with delicious food and festive enjoyment. That’s how beginning should be: fresh, exciting and celebratory.
